Hotel Tre Donzelle |
BackgroundL'Hotel tre donzelle', along with the Piccolo Hotel Etruria, are the most central hotels in Siena, as the Campo square, where the Palio is held twice a year,is only 10 metres away.Externally the building is a nineteenth-century architectural style, but its origin dates back many centuries, the earliest records are in the archives (early 1450). It seems that,in the past, in addition to the business, hotel and tavern, there was also a brothel in the same building. For this reason would think the street was named "maidens" that comes from the fourteenth century "Guazelda" which indicates a lady of easy virtue. The building, featuring a faux ashlar facade, with high cornice decorated with festoons and fruits which hang from knotted birds. There is a large bright skylight that leads you to grand rooms with fire places, marble floors and beautiful typical multi colored tiles. (R, . Historical eport of the Superintendent of Siena) |
